School Shows

How to have a great school show and get major points with your principal and parents . . .

There’s more than one reason that Aaron’s school shows are considered as good as they are. But the added value is the biggest draw. Free library classes!

When I taught third grade in Pflugerville ISD, the other kids and teachers were a little bit jealous when, on occasion, all 30 of my kids walked out of the classroom for the day with balloon hats.

I would have been fine, though, without the balloons. Good academics or no, the key was that the kids felt listened to, not lectured at. School shows are no different. While we Love & Logic our way though hecklers, the fact is that kids want to be part of the show because they love the show. I’ve learned many techniques to get the kids to settle down, but the fact is that the kids want to be part of the show. Of course I always have volunteers from the audience, but the group, be it a classroom or every class in the school; will always feel like they were part of something awesome.

What about the free classes? At most schools, as time allows and for no additional fee, I like to visit the school library and often (just ask me to!) read and/or speak to the next one or three specials classes. But with enough heads up, I can offer customized library classes at no charge on the same day as my school shows. Just drop me a line and we can work out how to make it happen.
